Charges for non-geographic calls
Please note all this information is taken from http://www.ukcalling.info/ which also has additional information you may find useful.
What has changed and why?
In the past, when you make a telephone call to a 'non-geographic' number (beginning with 08, 09 or 118) it's not always clear how much it will cost.
That changed on 1st July 15, under a new system from Ofcom (the UK telecoms regulator) that will make the cost of calling service numbers clear for everyone. It affects all calls from mobiles to 08, 09 and 118 numbers.
While Sure are not subject to Ofcom's rules, we adopted this as best practice.
How it worked previously
You sometimes see or hear information about the cost of calls, which goes something like this:
"Calls cost 20p per minute from a BT landline. Other landlines may vary and calls from mobiles may cost considerably more."
This made it hard for you to know the cost, as you are not calling from a BT landline.
How it works now
From 1 July 2015, the cost of calling service numbers is made up of two parts:
An access charge: This part of the call charge Sure charge.
A service charge: This is the rest of the call charge. The organisation you are calling decides this, and will tell you how much it is.
You will hear or see something like this:
"Calls cost 20p per minute plus your phone company's access charge."
So you'd simply add this price to Sure's access charge to find out the total cost of your call.
Which numbers are affected
These rules will apply to all consumer calls to 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers across the UK, delivering clearer call rates for everyone.
The changes do not affect calls made to ordinary landline numbers (01, 02), 03 numbers or mobile (07) numbers. Neither do they affect calls made from payphones, international calls, or calls to the UK when roaming overseas.
In addition, all Freephone numbers (which begin 0800 or 0808) have been made free for consumers to call from all phones, whether mobile or landline.
What about numbers starting with 03?
From 1st July Sure has classified these numbers as regular 'UK landline' calls. So if you have a bundle which includes UK minutes, these numbers will be included. Otherwise you will pay the same rate as for a UK call - see our call charges here.
