Data fair use policy

Before April 2014 we sold Pay Monthly and Pay As You Go plans which included unlimited data. However to ensure our network didn't become too congested and everyone could use it equally there was a 'fair use policy' of 500MB use per day. After this, your data speeds were reduced.

Pay Monthly plans purchased after 29 April and Pay As You Go plans from 3 August

Because data is so much faster on 4G, after our network was upgraded we found customers were using more data and therefore being slowed down more often, which we know is frustrating!

Therefore our plans now come with a set amount of data, but the fair usage policy mentioned above does not apply.

Once you have used your allocation of data, you'll be charged for your data use (click here for our rates).

To make sure you don't overspend though, we will stop your data after you use 20GB of data in any given day - just to make sure you're not using a lot of data unintentionally and accidentally run up a large bill.

I keep getting a fair use limit message / my speeds reduced. What can I do about it?

If you are on a Pay Monthly plan with unlimited data (i.e. purchased pre 2014) this policy will still apply to you, so if you are using more than 500MB data/day your speeds will be reduced.

To prevent this, you may want to move on to one of our new plans - we can help you with this in store, even if you are only half way through your contract term.

In summary

Plan  Fair use limit
Pay Monthly plan with Unlimited data 500MB per day, then your speeds are reduced
Pay Monthly plan with a set amount of data 20GB per day, then your data access is stopped until midnight*
Pay As You Go (top ups after 3rd August) 20GB per day (subject to sufficient credit), then your data access is stopped until midnight
Mobile internet – Pay Monthly 20GB per day, then your data access is stopped until midnight
Mobile internet - PAYG 500MB per day, then your speeds are reduced

*if your plan includes less than 20GB data we will stop your access once you have used all your month’s data plus £20 worth of additional data, to protect you from unexpectedly high bills.
